Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorship- When I first came here I had just dropped my wife off last July in memory care which was awful to do, but I had to do it.
And I hung on as long as I could.
You know, I took care of her here as a caregiver for six or seven years.
Got to the point where I couldn't do it anymore.
So when I came here, I was crying.
(balls pinging) Coming to St. Clair, it's just made me a better person.
And it's, you know, it's taken some of my depression away 'cause I'm fulfilling things and I'm not thinking about you know, where my wife is and all that stuff.
But coming here, it just takes that away.
I forget about it.
I forget about all that stuff, you know and whether I'm talking to somebody or shooting pool or going to the gym, it just, you know talking to the staff, it just puts my mind at ease.
- I believe senior centers are a really important part of any community.
It is just a place where people can come that may not have anyone else in their lives.
We want our seniors to know that they're important.
That just because you're no longer working or you may not be what you think of as young anymore, doesn't mean that you're still not an important part of community.
And St. Clair fills that emptiness for a lot of people.
All right, let's make our way back towards our chairs.
Everybody come on back, march back.
We work on the whole person.
We want you physically fit but we also want you to be able to be mentally fit.
We bring in speakers on mental health just about anything that our seniors are in need of or are wanting.
We try to provide that for them.
- St. Clair Senior Center was open door.
Welcome to me.
I've met so many people.
I know all the staff's name.
I don't know why, but I do.
But, and there's some people, certain individuals like when I play pool, I pretty much know all their names but that's 'cause I go down there and mingle in, you know So, you know, when people were faced with a situation like myself, this is a great place to be.
You know, don't sit home on the couch, don't watch TV.
Except it's, unless it's public broadcasting then you wanna watch that, especially this show.
But don't sit on a couch, come down here.
There's all kinds of activities that you could do.
You'll surely find something.
