Arsenal History Minutes | George Davenport Murdered | WQPT

George Davenport is often credited as the first permanent American settler in the area we call the Quad Cities. He arrived at Rock Island in the summer of 1816 working as a supplier to the Army at Fort Armstrong. By 1818 he was a full time trader with the local tribes and – as a result -became very wealthy.
